WHILE the top two picks in the upcoming PBA Rookie Draft are a no-brainer, who the Blackwater Elite will tab with the No. 3 overall pick remains a mystery.
Asked about it during the Draft Combine on Tuesday, Elite coach Leo Isaac was non-commital on which player he hopes to select after consensus top picks Christian Standhardinger and Kiefer Ravena.
Isaac said unless plans change at the last minute, Blackwater is looking for a big man but refused to name anyone in particular from the pool.
"Ang hanap talaga namin is big man," he admitted in an interview with a handful of reporters on Tuesday at the Gatorade Hoops Center.
"But since we're picking No. 3, depende sa mga magiging picks ng mga mauuna samin. Dun maglalaro yung decision namin."
After the 6-7 Standhardinger, the best available big men in the pool are Raymar Jose and Jason Perkins, who turned heads after their impressive performances in the D-League.
Isaac said it is likely the Elite will choose Jose, even if former La Salle star Jeron Teng appeared to be the best available talent at No. 3
Then again, Isaac said the final Blackwater decision will depend on a lot of factors, including negotiations with current players who have expiring contracts.
"Pwede (kunin si Raymar), napag-usapan na namin 'yan. But it will still depend on the negotiations with players who have expiring contracts," he said.
"Yung composition kasi ng team, gusto namin kumpleto. Ayaw naman naming ma-overload sa isang position tapos kukulangin kami sa iba. So kailangan balanse."
The rookie draft raft is set on Sunday, October 29, at Robinsons Place Ermita.
