GLOBALPORT shoots for its first back-to-back wins of the season when it faces winless Blackwater in the PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Batang Pier have been blowing hot and cold to start the season and hold an even 2-2 win-loss record.
That puts them in the middle of the pack, and GlobalPort coach Pido Jarencio said they are determined to stay above the cellar.
“Siyempre, yung mga bata ayaw din naman na nasa ilalim dahil conference by conference na lang nasa ilalim kami,” explained Jarencio, who only had two wins to show during his first two conferences with GlobalPort last season.
Now that they have matched that two-win total just four games into the season-opening conference, Jarencio hopes they could build on it.
"Siyempre, yung panalo ng team, malaking confidence booster iyan sa amin," Jarencio said, referring to the Batang Pier’s win over Barako Bull.
Veteran playmaker Alex Cabagnot is expected to play against Blackwater after skipping the game against Barako Bull early this week due to throat infection.
The Batang Pier are facing an Elite team that got hammered by Barangay Ginebra Kings last Wednesday, 100-91, and are winless in four games.
Blackwater coach Leo Isaac said fear is one of the major factors the Elite could not unleash their true potential.
"Until we've convinced ourselves that we can win and get out of our shells, then mawawala ang fears nyo at duda niyo, and that would be the ony time we can celebrate a win," said Isaac.
