Blackwater Sports releases veteran forward Danny Ildefonso as contract talks hit dead end

    Sep 13, 2014

BLACKWATER team owner Dioceldo Sy took a 180-degree turn, deciding to “unconditionally release” veteran big man Danny Ildefonso and allowing the two-time league MVP to talk to other PBA ballclubs.

Sy made the decision after learning from that the 6-foot-5 Ildefonso is contemplating retirement due to an earlier statement from the Blackwater big boss that “they will only release the former via the trade route.”

“I am releasing Danny I. (Ildefonso) unconditionally because I don’t want to be the reason for his retirement,” Sy, who made Ildefonso the No. 1 selection in the last dispersal draft, told

“I want to move on and have no harm done on anybody since we only have a very small basketball world,” he added.

Blackwater earlier offered Ildefonso a two-year deal for P200,000 a month, an amount the former National University felt was not commensurate to what he is expected to contribute to the expansion ball club.

And since the two camps failed to reach an agreement, Ildefonso hinted at retiring if Blackwater insists on releasing him only through a trade.

The pride of Urdaneta, Pangasinan has seen his minutes and production dip significantly the last two seasons, averaging just 3.1 points and 2.1 rebounds in 21 games for the Bolts last season.
