BLACKWATER coach Leo Isaac rarely grants interviews after a loss, but he surprisingly did on Friday night after his team’s 107-93 defeat at the hands of Rain or Shine in the PBA Philippine Cup.
While in a good mood talking with reporters, the Elite coach was clearly the opposite with his wards after they disappointed on both ends of the floor against the Elasto Painters.
“’Di tugma sa gising ba, may araw na maganda yung gising ng player, kanina ang baba ng shooting percentage namin,” Isaac said, citing young guns Mac Belo (6 of 16) and Kyle Pascual (4 of 12).
“Pag nakikita mong hindi bumabagsak yung tira mo, it brings negative impact on the team, and when you see your opponent making easy baskets, mas lalo kang na fu-frustrate.
“(Pero) more concerned ako sa depensa,” he added as his team dropped to a 2-2 win-loss card. “After two games na nanalo kami, completely out of focus kami sa depensa, hindi kami nasa isang sitwasyon na alam namin yung ginagawa ng bawat isa defensively.”
The Elite made 39 of their 93 shots for 42 percent overall, while allowing the E-Painters to make 37 of their 73 shots for a solid 51 percent.
“We have to correct that, work harder on defense considering lahat ng teams malalakas,” Isaac said. “Para makakuha kami ng mga panalo ulit, kailangan kami magkaroon kami ng malinis na pag-iisip na kailangan naming magtrabaho lalo na sa depensa.”
Isaac, however, is wondering if he is expecting too much from his players.
“Marami rin akong question, gusto ko rin malaman yung nilalaman ng mga ulo ng mga players, gusto ko malaman yung dahilan kung bakit ganun nilaro nila para magkaintindihan kami," Isaac said. "Maaring pinupush ko sila, hindi pa nila ma-sustain yung gusto ko."
"Gusto ko maintindihan kung bakit hindi tumutugma yung instruction sa ginagawa sa loob.”
The Elite try to figure things out next week when they face another struggling team in NLEX.
