MACAU – Motivated to move on to the semifinals, Blackwater sent a strong statement and clobbered Rizing Zephyr Fukuoka, 90-66, to finish off pool play in Asia League Super 8 2018 on Thursday at Macao East Asian Games Dome.
The Elite went 10 for 24 from threes as they ran away with the victory with a strong second half.
Nard Pinto drained three triples and finished with 15 points on top of six rebounds and four assists, while Roi Sumang added a pair of long bombs and wound up with 11 points, six dimes and five boards off the bench.
Mike DiGregorio also had 10 points 2 of 5 sniping from beyond the arc, on top of six rebounds, while Paul Zamar chipped in 10 points, nine rebounds and two assists.
Raymar Jose paced Blackwater with 18 points and nine rebounds.
The Elite used a 16-0 assault in the second quarter to create a 14-point breathing room, 42-28, before continuing to pummel the Japanese side after the halftime break.
The win kept Blackwater, carrying a 2-1 record in Group B, in contention for a spot in the crossover semifinals.
Their fate, however, depends on the result between Guangzhou Long Lions (2-0) and Seoul Samsung Thunders (1-1) later in the day.
Daisuke Kobayashi and Kazuya Hatano both poured 14 points in the losing cause for Rizing Zephyr Fukuoka, which bowed out of the tourney with a 0-3 card.
