MERALCO coach Norman Black and NLEX coach Yeng Guiao got into a shouting match on Sunday after NLEX center Dave Marcelo tagged Meralco import Allen Durham with a hard foul in their PBA Governors Cup game.
Marcelo was called for a flagrant foul one after he chased Durham on a fastbreak with six minutes left in the third quarter. Durham landed hard on the floor, prompting Black to react to the incident.
Moments later, Black and Guiao got into a shouting match in the sidelines, forcing the referees to slap the two veteran coaches with a technical foul each.
“That’s emotions,” said Black, shrugging off the incident after Meralco's 108-105 comeback against NLEX. “Yeng and I go way back in the PABL if you guys still remember the PABL, so we’ve had our run-ins over the years.”
Black said he didn’t hear what Guiao was saying from the other end.
“It’s just emotions of seeing my import getting wiped out like that. The way I was looking at Yeng, it wasn’t a bad play or I don’t know what he was really saying but I though it was a bad foul. I thought it could have injured my import very seriously and I was trying to protect my import,” said Black.
Guiao, on the other hand, insisted his enforcer Marcelo was going after the ball.
"From my point of view, he was going for the ball," said the national coach, adding those were the exact words he was shouting to Black.
