NOVEMBER 1 is the birthday of Petron Blaze head coach Olsen Racela. He turned 42 on Thursday.
The Boosters already gave him an advance birthday gift last Friday, October 26, when they routed Globalport 110-98. It was the team’s first game sans Serbian Rajko Toroman, who has been stripped of his active role as consultant of the ballclub.
On Friday, November 2, Petron Blaze will try to give Racela another gift: his first win streak as head coach in PBA as the Boosters will be eyeing their third straight win against Air21 in the 2012-13 PBA Philippine Cup eliminations at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Since it’s his birth month, November has proven lucky for Racela in the past. Will it be the same this season?
Petron Blaze actually has a 10-game winning streak in the month of the November dating back to the 2010-11 Philippine Cup. The team won its last four November games in 2010 and went 6-0 last year.
If the Boosters win all their games this month, they will stretch their November win streak to 17 which curiously was Racela’s jersey number when he was still playing for the franchise.
This SMC franchise has not lost in the month of November since Rain or Shine beat San Miguel Beer 110-107 on November 7, 2010.
Like Petron Blaze, San Mig Coffee also won its six games in the month of the November last year when it was still known as B-Meg.
