NIÑO Canaleta is not letting the latest rumors involving him affect his performance for Mahindra in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
The journeyman forward, once again rumored to be on the move, hardly looked bothered by providing an early spark for the Enforcers in their 111-98 victory over GlobalPort on Friday.
Although he went scoreless in the second half, Canaleta fired 20 points in 14 minutes in the first, enough to spark the Enforcers’ stunning one-sided win over the emerging powerhouse squad.
“Kung nasan ako, lalaro ako,” Canaleta said. “Hindi ako mag-iisip ng kung ano.”
The 11-year journeyman was hardly surprised when he heard the rumor that he could be shipped anew.
“Sa experience ko sa mga trade na 'yan, hindi na ako nagulat na ma-involve ako ulit eh,” Canaleta said. “Hindi ko na lang pinapansin.”
“Nakakapagod, syempre,” he was quick to add. “Pero player lang tayo, wala naman tayo magagawa eh. Sila yung may control dyan.”
What he can control was his performance that resulted in a morale-boosting victory that also served as a fitting birthday present for Canaleta, who turned 34 on Friday.
“Pinaghandaan namin 'yan. Sobrang excited ko siguro maglaro ulit,” the athletic, sweet-shooting cager said. “Napa-aga kasi yung out namin last conference.”
