ALDRECH Ramos started his birthday celebration on a sour note as Mahindra lost to Meralco, 94-86, in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
The Enforcers stretch-4, who turned 28 on Sunday, was poised to have a happy celebration as his team nurtured an eight-point lead with under four minutes left, before they wasted it and lost by eight points to fall to a 4-5 win-loss slate.
“Ang sama, natalo pa,” Ramos said after the game. “Close game tapos sa endgame, nagbago.”
“I’ll take responsibility dun,” he added. “Sa akin yung karamihan sa last shot eh. Usually name-make ko tapos ngayon, na-miss ko.”
Ramos registered 12 points, five boards, and three assists in 33 minutes, but was scoreless in the payoff period. He Missed a right-wing three-pointer that would’ve tied the game at 89 and end a three-minute scoring drought.
“Na-mental block kami, nawala sa system. Hindi kami maka-stop eh tapos hindi na rin kami maka-shoot, so nag-patong-patong na,” he said.
“As a veteran, syempre dapat nandun ka sa game,” added the former Gilas Pilipinas pool member, who had 25 points on 11-of-15 shooting in their upset win over Alaska two weeks ago. “Pero ganun talaga eh, wala naman perpekto. Last game, na-shoo-shoot ko. Bounce back na lang.”
Ramos finds his tonic over a few bottles of beer to cap his birthday celebration.
“Bawiin na lang natin sa kain tsaka inom,” the veteran forward said.
“Pero konti lang naman kasi may practice pa sa Tuesday,” he added with a smile.
