BILLY Mamaril made it clear he had no axe to grind against former team Barangay Ginebra after playing an inspired game and helping GlobalPort reach the semifinals of the PBA for the first time.

The veteran big man was the one responsible for sending the game into overtime after his strong drive to the hoop – off a Stanley Pringle assist - with 4.1 seconds left in regulation tied the game at 80-all.

The Batang Pier went on to win the knockout match played before a Sunday crowd of 14,539 at the Mall of Asia Arena, 84-83, and arranged a best-of-seven duel with top seed Alaska.

Mamaril finished with only four points, but had eight rebounds, two assists, two steals, and four block shots in the victory that ousted his former team from the race for a semifinal berth.

He later said, be it Ginebra or not, he’ll still play with the same intensity he displayed against the Kings.

“It could be anybody. If you’re not motivated to get to the semis, then you don’t need to go and play,” he said. “That could be anybody. We just have to win, whoever it is.”

The 35-year-old Mamaril said until now he is still friends with some Ginebra players despite him being a Batang Pier now.

“I still have personal relationship with them, and that’s not gonna change,” he said.

Besides, Mamaril stressed Ginebra would have done the same thing to him and the Batang Pier, notwithstanding that ‘personal relationship’ he’s been saying.

“If they do the same thing to us, neck-to-neck di ba. Patayan,” a smiling Billy added.
