BILL Walker didn’t mind carrying NLEX on his back on the offensive end since the start of their PBA Governors’ Cup campaign.
But the Road Warriors import is glad to finally have someone he can lean on for some help from the backcourt.
Walker welcomed the spark Garvo Lanete has given the Road Warriors, most recently in their 114-98 win over GlobalPort on Friday night.
“He helps me so much because I’m able to attack and go to him and I know he’s going to make the right plays whether it’s driving or hitting the big shot,” Walker said. “He knows I got confidence in him and Jonas (Villanueva) as well.”
“Guys are ready to sacrifice for each other and we’re doing a great job,” added the NBA veteran, who still led the Road Warriors with 35 points in 44 minutes.
Walker saw Lanete pump in 25 points built around five three-pointers in just 18 minutes off the bench, replicating his heroics in their 111-99 win over Rain or Shine last Sunday.
And the NLEX import is hardly surprised with the rookie gunner’s performance.
“Garvo’s doing what he’s supposed to do,” Walker said. “He’s a talented guy and I had to tell him that you got to stop being shy, you can’t be afraid to go out there and be the best player you can be.”
“Go out there and play with some heart, have some confidence, knowing that you put the work in every day and go out there and show it,” he added. “Don’t be scared to shoot.”
