BEAU Belga said Rain or Shine is so lucky to land rookie Javee Mocon as well as other promising youngsters.
Belga said he is impressed with the young group that has joined the team particularly Mocon, the sixth overall pick by Rain or Shine in the recent PBA draft.
“Sobrang suwerte naming sa kanila, especially kay Mocon,” said Belga. “Sobrang sipag.”
The work ethic of the former San Beda standout has worked wonders as he averaged 10.4 points and 9.8 rebounds for the Elastopainters through five games.
Another young turk, sophomore Rey Nambatac, showed the way in Rain or Shine’s 85-72 win against Alaska by scoring a team-high 12 points.
Nambatac, a former Letran star, is averaging 7.4 points and shooting an impressive 83 percent from behind the arc (5-of-6 total).
Belga said he is making an effort to become a mentor and a good example for the young turks.
“Nagiging vocal ako sa kanila. Sinasabi ko kung ano ‘yung mali at kung ano ‘yung tama… Nagbe-benefit lahat especially ako dahil nakakapaglaro ako ng matagal, nakaka-pagmando ako, and then ‘yung respect as one of the veterans dito sa grupo.
"So thankful ako sa mga bago na pinakikinggan nila ako. Hindi naman ako mag-aano ng ikasasama nila,” Belga said.
Belga said he is trying to preach to the new guys the value of composure.
“You need it, especially sa mga bago. Kasi frustration, ‘yung mga negative thoughts, laging nandiyan ‘yan. As a veteran in this group, hindi ko kailangan ipakita na ako frustrated.
"Hindi ako puwede magpakita ng negative body language sa kanila. For them to follow kung ano ‘yung ginagawa ko, it’s more on the positive side, dapat ipakita mo, even in practice,” Belga said.
