LOS ANGELES – San Miguel doesn’t see any problem signing back top gunner Marcio Lassiter and four other stalwarts to new contracts especially with the team’s roster decimated a bit after trading three players for the rights to rookie big man Christian Standhardinger.
Along with Lassiter, also with expired deals for the Beermen are Matt Ganuelas Rosser, Yancy de Ocampo, Brian Heruela, and Keith Agovida.
“Wala namang problema re-signing them,” said SMC board of governor Robert Non at the Sofitel Hotel here where the PBA board and delegation are staying for its annual planning session. “Otherwise wala kaming players.”
At the moment, only Alex Cabagnot, Arwind Santos, four-time MVP June Mar Fajardo, Chris Ross, Gabby Espinas, David Semerad, and Von Pessumal have live contracts with the team.
The Beermen gave up Jay-R Reyes, Ronald Tubid, Rashawn McCarthy, and a 2019 first-round pick for KIA to acquire the year’s no. 1 overall pick in the draft which turned out to be Standhardinger.
Non said the 30-year-old Lassiter is still here in the U.S. and will sign his new contract once he returns to the Philippines.
“Halos magkasunod lang kaming babalik sa Pilipinas. By that time na siya mag-sign ng bagong kontrata,” said Non. “But I don’t see any problem naman with Marcio signing with us again.”
