Amid trade rumors, Beau Belga feels his spot is safe at RoS after Yeng Guiao drafted guards, wing players

    Aug 29, 2015

BEAU Belga believes Rain or Shine’s decision to select guards and wingmen in the draft was coach Yeng Guiao’s way to reassure his trust in him and the rest of the team’s big men.

The Elasto Painters could’ve drafted Norbert Torres, considered one of the better big men in the draft after Moala Tautuaa and Troy Rosario, as a fallback if Belga was going to be traded.

Instead, Guiao drafted combo guards Maverick Ahanmisi and Josan Nimes, as well as guard/forward Don Trollano on Sunday.

The Painters have Belga, JR Quiñahan, Raymond Almazan, and recently acquired Jewel Ponferrada in the frontcourt rotation.

But the veteran slotman was quick to add that Guiao is not giving special treatment to him or anyone in the squad.

Reacting to the trade rumors, Belga, who’s entering the final year of a three-year contract, said he has gained assurance from Guiao that he won’t be dealt.

“I’ve talked to coach Yeng and hindi naman daw niya ako i-te-trade eh, so nagkaroon ako ng peace of mind,” he said.

“May naririnig ako na may mga gustong kumuha,” the seven-year league veteran added.

But the 28-year-old Belga, who’s entering the final year of a three-year contract, reiterated he is happy with the Painters.

“There’s nothing wrong between sa team and sa akin,” said the Gubat, Sorsogon native, who has been with ROS for four years.

“Dito nagsimula yung career ko eh, dito gumanda, dito ako nagkaroon ng magandang career, magandang nilalaro, so walang dahilan para umalis pa.”
