REY Nambatac was glad to repay the faith of Rain or Shine coach Caloy Garcia after hitting the marginal three-pointer in an 83-80 win over Blackwater n Game One of their PBA Commissioner's Cup quarterfinal series.
Nambatac drilled a three-pointer from way, way out with 2.3 seconds left to cap the an 11-0 finishing kick that wiped out an 80-72 Blackwater lead and put the Elasto Painters a win away from reaching the semifinals.
Game Two of the best-of-three series is on Tuesday.
“Bago ‘yung tira na ‘yun, nakita ko na ‘yung oras, paubos na. Napaganda pa kasi biglang dumikit sa akin si Roi Sumang. Nabigyan ako ng space para makatira ng maayos kahit malayo,” said the former Letran star.
“Kumpiyansa lang talaga. ‘Yun ‘yung binigay sa akin ni coach Caloy. Binigyan niya ako ng free will kung ano ang gusto ko. Nagpe-pay off naman. Sinuklian ko 'yung binigay na trust ni coach Caloy at ng mga teammates ko,” said Nambatac.
Rain or Shine veteran Beau Belga paid tribute to Nambatac, who finished the game with 13 points, six rebounds and two stealswhile going 3-of-5 clip from downtown.
“Talagang natuto na siya na when it comes to dikdikan, hindi puwedeng nara-rattle,” said Belga of the sophomore guard. “Pinakita ni Rey ngayon, ‘yung ganung klaseng tira na dagger, sasaluduhan mo ‘yung bata eh. Matapang din talaga. Saludo ako sa kanya.”
