BEAU Belga lamented Rain or Shine’ porous defense that allowed Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle to have a field day for GlobalPort in their PBA Philippine Cup matchup on Sunday night.
While their offense was at par to standards, the Elasto Painters let Romeo scatter 44 points on 16-of-30 shooting, and Pringle add 28 points on 10-of-18 shooting as the Batang Pier cruised to a 117-99 win to clinch a quarterfinal bert..
“We’re not having problems when it comes to offense,” Belga said. “Defense ang problema namin, kasi two guys – forty-four (points) and twenty-eight.”
Belga remembers the time when he could escape with a few physical plays just so he could limit a production of a player who’s starting to get hot.
“Pero hindi na pwede ngayon ‘yun eh, so pagalingan na lang dumepensa,” he was quick to add. “And we need it on Wednesday. Wala kaming choice.”
After all, the E-Painters are left in a must-win situation to avoid playoff complications after falling to a 5-5 win-loss record.
Belga, though, engaged former teammate JR Quinahan in a few physical plays, which he played down.
