Beau Belga attests to rookie Maverick Ahanmisi's toughness: 'Kahit anong gawin mo, lumalaban'

    Sep 18, 2015

MAVERICK Ahanmisi seems to be a perfect fit for Rain or Shine.

Beau Belga is pleased that the surprise third overall pick in this year’s draft has so far been holding his own in Elasto Painters' practice and showing his own brand of toughness.

The RoS bruiser, one half of the team's famed 'Extra Rice Inc.' frontline, has been testing the limits of his rookie teammate, who he said has refused to back down from any challenge in training.

“I'm really happy kasi matibay,” Belga said after practice on Thursday. “Kahit anong gawin mo, lumalaban.”

Gun-shy in his first few practices with the perennial PBA contenders, the 6-foot-1 Ahanmisi, who recently signed a two-year maximum rookie contract, has been more aggressive as of late as he tries to live up to lofty expectations.

But Belga feels the Filipino-Nigerian combo guard has to involve his teammates more this time and become another trusty playmaker for the Painters apart from Paul Lee.

“Kailangan niya maging creative sa teammates,” Belga said. “Nakikita ko na excited siya shumoot. Pero ang role ng guard dito is to set up the offense and the team.”

“In time, he will know his role sa team na ‘to,” he added.
