RAIN or Shine’s Beau Belga had his guns blazing on Wednesday night – literally and figuratively.
The burly big man found his range from the perimeter in the Elasto Painters’ 99-84 rout of defending champion San Miguel Beermen in the Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena.
And as he was draining shot after the other, Belga was also making gestures as if firing a shot gun in the air with every basket he made, delighting the modest crowd at the venue that included representatives from the NBA.
The Elasto Pinters bruiser considered his clowning around a lucky charm after finishing with 15 points, including three triples, in 27 minutes of action.
“Siguro (swerte) sumu-shoot eh, so ‘wag baguhin kung nakakashoot. Uulit-ulitin ko,” a smiling Belga said.
He even added that his arsenal has improved since previously he would only gesture with his hand as if firing a hand gun in the air once he made a basket.
“Nag-iimprove, umaasenso ‘yung baril. Sa mga susunod na araw sniper na ‘yan, tapos kasunod machine gun na ‘yan,” he said.
But truth to tell, he said the act was a personal joke between him and PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcia.
“Kay boss Willie ‘yun, biruan namin ‘yun eh. Wala siya kanina, so kung sino na lang ang tamaan, hindi joke lang,” he admitted.
Marcial is currently in Dubai with the rest of the PBA delegation for the two out of the country games involving Barangay Ginebra, Alaska, and Mahindra.
“Biruan namin ‘yun pag nakakashoot ako babarilin ko siya. Pag nagmimintis ako babarilin niya rin ako,” he added.
Belga however was asked about the possibility of being reprimanded for the action, of which he said he’s ready to face the consequence if ever he’d be admonished about it.
“Eh wala naman masama eh.,Kung pagsasabihan ako eh ‘di tatanggalin ko, pero as long as hindi pa naman, wala naman siguro masama,” he said.
“At saka expression lang naman ‘yun eh, ‘yung tuwa mo nilalabas mo na lang sa ganoon, so, ‘yun.”
