Beau Belga on what it would take to finish off Alaska: 'Isang malupit na effort'

    May 15, 2016
Beau Belga says Rain or Shine's can't afford to allow Alaska to grow in confidence.

TAKE two for Rain or Shine as it aims to finish off Alaska in their PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals series on Sunday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

The Elasto Painters failed to get it in one take after surrendering a 111-99 decision in Game Four last Friday as the Aces avoided a sweep of their best-of-seven series.

But the E-Painters get their next shot at capturing their second league title with a victory in Game Five that tips off at 5 p.m.

E-Painters enforcer Beau Belga, a part-time actor, hope to please the director this time.

“Itaga mo sa bato,” he said with a laugh as he took back what he said.

Jokes are half meant. And the E-Painters are definitely eager to dispatch the Aces, who are seeking to become just the second team to come back from a 3-0 hole.

“Mahirap manalo ng dalawa sila,” Belga said. “Yung confidence nun, talagang magbo-boost.”

“Kami naman, pag two straight natalo, mada-down ka, magda-doubt ka na,” he added. “Doon na magsisimula mag hesitate ka.”

Belga appeared to overact in Game Four, where he forced some shots and finished with just six points on just 2-of-8 shooting, six boards, four assists, and one block before fouling out after 27 minutes of play.

“Nasa sa amin kung gusto naming tapusin ang series na ‘to, it’s up to us,” the Extra Rice Inc. member said. “Walang ibang magtatapos nito, hindi si coach Yeng (Guiao), hindi ang coaching staff, kundi kaming mga players.”

“Isang malupit na effort lang at sacrifice,” added Belga, who should provide Pierre Henderson-Niles support as the RoS import is nursing a back injury that caused him to register just three points on three attempts and five boards in 20 minutes in Game Four.

“I did not play him long minutes in preparation for the next game,” Guiao said. “I knew that our chances winning the game in the third quarter were low, that’s why I opted to play him less minutes and give him a break, hoping it’s going to heal.”
