Beau Belga on Abueva: 'Medyo malambot ako noong nakaraan sa kanya, mas titibayan ko pa'

    Dec 20, 2014

BEAU Belga admitted Calvin Abueva and the Alaska Aces got the better of Rain or Shine in Game One of their PBA Philippine Cup playoffs, but warned there's such a thing as payback.

And the fact that usually fiery mentor Yeng Guiao spared the entire team from a tongue-lashing after an 80-87 loss to the Aces on Thursday night gives Belga confidence that Rain or Shine can right the ship.

“Nagkataon kasi off-night namin 'yun. Masyado kaming nanggigil, wala kaming masyadong laro. Mahaba kasi yung naging pahinga,” said Belga. “Kami-kami lang kasi lagi naglalaro eh. Sa practice naman same intensity lang eh.”

Asked about Abueva’s remarkable performance against him and other Rain or Shine defenders that saw the 'Beast' cut loose for 14 points, 14 rebounds and five assists, Belga refused to engage him in a war of words.

Rain or Shine versus Alaska ito,” he said.

But the outspoken former PCU Dolphin issued a stern statement.

“Wala 'yun. Sila naka-assign sa akin eh,” said Belga, one of Guiao’s toughest defenders.

Yun naman lagi expectation namin,” added the Gubat, Sorsogon native.

Belga said Guiao’s unusual calm demeanor during the post-game huddle also serves as motivation for the players.

“First time ko siya (Guiao) makita na hindi nagalit. Kasi ako expected ko noon magagalit siya. Pero hindi eh, kalmado lang siya. Sinabi lang niya na isu-survive natin tong series na to,” he said.

“Kaya dun, nagising kami at parang tinamaan ng hiya sa kanya,” said Belga.

The Elasto Painters have been in the finals of the Philippine Cup the last two seasons - and Belga said they won't let Alaska stop them from a third one.

Kaya 'yan,” he said.
