BATANGAS City - Beau Belga of Rain or Shine came out with a flawless run in the final round to crown himself the PBA Obstacle Challenge champion on Friday at the Batangas City Sports Center.
Belga finished with a time of 21.7 seconds to beat out Blackwater's JP Erram and San Miguel's Gabby Espinas in the event usually reserved for guards, but was specifically reserved for big men in this edition.
Erram clocked 29.6 seconds while Espinas finished with 30.5 seconds.
"Napa-practice din, minsan kasi sa practice namin ako ang nagdadala ng bola. So marunong din ako," said Belga as he followed the footsteps of his teammate Maverick Ahanmisi who won the 2016 and 2017 edition of the competition.
"Na-challenge din ako sa teammate ko. Sabi ko, I'll try. Wag lang ma-out sa first round."
Belga ousted Sonny Thoss and Justin Chua in the head-to-head eliminations.
The event savored a light moment in the first round as Asi Taulava playfully taunted Espinas after being ahead early before contesting Espinas' shot.
The joke, in the end, was on Taulava as he forgot to bring the ball down in the homestretch, allowing Espinas to catch up.
Other participants were Raymond Aguilar of Barangay Ginebra, Columbian Dyip's Russell Escoto, TNT's Yousef Taha, Meralco's Ken Bono, Magnolia's Aldrech Ramos and GlobalPort's Kelly Nabong.
