EVEN for one of the PBA's notorious bad boys, the Lenten Season is a time for pause and reflection.
Rain or Shine bruiser Beau Belga has gotten himself in one too many controversies in his PBA career, but his 'soft side' emerges during Holy Week which he said he spends reflecting and giving thanks for countless blessings.
“It’s (Lenten Season) time to spend time para kay God kasi Holy Week. Lahat ng tao ang focus kay God eh so ako, ganun din naman," Belga told Spin.ph. "It’s time to ask for forgiveness and to give thanks sa lahat ng na-receive mo throughout the year.”
Belga, who was slapped with a P70,000 fine for taunting Ginebra fans and three flagrant fouls, claimed his haters on social media are still dropping hate messages on his Twitter account from time to time.
But in the spirit of the Lenten Season, the burly Rain or Shine banger said he would rather ignore his haters and channel his energy toward the team’s current semifinal campaign against Meralco.
“Oo naman (forgiving his haters). Wala naman akong sama ng loob eh. Hangga’t matatangap ko, tatanggapin ko (bad messages on social media)," said the former Gilas Pilipinas reserve.
"Marami naman akong nababasang masasakit na salita pero di ko na lang pinapansin. Di ako mamatay dun,” he said. “Kung ang mura nakakapatay, marami na siguro akong napatay. So tanggapin na lang ng tanggapin, lilipas din yan.”
Belga and the Elasto Painters return to action on Sunday and will be eyeing a 2-0 bulge against the Bolts. They opened the semifinal series with a 99-86 victory on Tuesday.
