NO offense to the anticipated megafight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., but Beau Belga has more important things to worry about for now.
And that obviously is Rain or Shine’s ongoing championship series against Talk ‘N Text in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
“Hindi ko muna pinag-fo-focusan yung laban ni Pacquiao,” Belga, one of the pro league's most notorious bangers, told Spin.ph with a smile. “Kasi meron kaming sariling laban dito eh. “Yun muna yung sa amin.”
But that won’t stop the Elasto Painters enforcer from rooting for his compatriot on May 2 (May 3, Manila time).
“I’ll go for Pacquiao, kasi ito yung hinihintay niyang laban eh,” he said, predicting a knockout win for the eight-division boxing champion between the eighth and 10th rounds. “Balewala yung pinag-antay niya kung matatalo lang rin siya.”
“So magiging intense tong laban na ‘to,” the 28-year-old Gubat, Sorsogon native added.
More intense than their highly physical title series against the Tropang Texters?
“Mas malala ‘yun (boxing) syempre,” said one of the league's tough guys. “Kasi sa basketball limahan at maraming sub. Doon, one-on-one lang yun. talagang ikaw lang.”
But the 6-foot-5 bruiser is also taking seriously their heated battle against the Texters, especially temperamental import Ivan Johnson, going to the winner-take-all Game seven.
“Hindi naman pwe-pwede sa aming mga local dito na basta gaganunin ka na lang,” Belga said, reacting to Johnson’s antics. “Kailangan namin lumaban.”
“Dayuhan siya rito. Kami mamamatay na kami rito,” the Gilas Pilipinas pool member was quick to add. “Talagang sa sarili ko, kailangan namin lumaban.”
After all, it’s the finals.
“Hindi pwede malambot dito,” the seven-year league veteran said. “Dito, patibayan at palakihan ng puso. Kung sino ang mas malaki puso at mas matibay, ‘yun ang mananalo
