BEAU Belga insisted Rain or Shine didn’t take shorthanded GlobalPort lightly in the Elasto Painters' 70-78 loss to the Batang Pier in their PBA Philippine Cup matchup on Friday night.
Facing a Batang Pier side that was missing injured superstar Terrence Romeo, the Elasto Painters looked like they merely went through the motions as they trailed most of the way before falling short in a late comeback.
Still, Belga stressed they didn’t underestimate the Batang Pier.
“Wala ng iu-underestimate dito sa liga ngayon,” the ROS enforcer said. “Lahat dito, kailangan paghirapan mong manalo. Wala na ritong sasabihin mong, ‘madali ‘to. Kaya naming talunin ‘to.’
“Like the last time, naglaro kami against Blackwater, natalo kami. Yun pa yung first time nanalo sa amin yung Blackwater. Ngayon, wala ng easy game sa PBA,” he added after the E-Painters dropped their second straight assignment after opening the season with a win over contender TNT.
The E-Painters offense sputtered against the Batang Pier as they made only 25 of their 86 shots for a dismal 29-percent shooting from the field, en route to recording the lowest output this season so far.
Belga did his part by putting up eight points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals against four turnovers in almost 29 minutes, but Gabe Norwood, Mark Borboran, and Maverick Ahanmisi were the only other double-digit scorers for the team.
“We’re lacking on offense tapos may mga lapses sa defense,” Belga said. “Kasi kami naman, kami yung team na mag-lack man kami on offense, bumabawi kami sa depensa. Eh ngayon, wala ng opensa, may lapses pa sa defense.”
“And isang tao lang pumatay sa amin eh: si Stanley lang. Lalo na kung nandyan si Terrence, mag-iiba pa,” he added.
