AS anger from his controversial actions a week ago continues to rage, Rain or Shine bruiser Beau Belga cozied up to fans of Ginebra, saying time may come when they may be on the same side.
In fact, Belga bared they almost did.
The Rain or Shine banger earned the 'Public Enemy No. 1' tag among Ginebra fans after a 82-79 Rain or Shine win last March 17 was marred by his flagrant fouls on three Gin Kings as well as a controversial endgame celebration that eventually cost him P70,000 in fines.
However, Belga bared that when his first contract with Rain or Shine expired in August 2013, a number of teams tried to lure him into their fold - and one of them was Ginebra.
"Muntik na nila akong naging player," said Belga of Ginebra. "Kinausap nila ko nun. Kasi that time kakaalis lang ni (Rudy) Hatfield, so siguro naghahanap rin sila ng enforcer."
Asked why his transfer to Ginebra did not materialize, Belga responded: "Nagbigay ng max (maximum contract) ang Rain or Shine, tapos syempre gusto mo ding nagpapakita ng loyalty, lalo na si coach Yeng (Guiao) isa sa kumausap sa akin."
And since change is constant in professional basketball, Belga did not rule out a move to Ginebra happening in the future.
"Malay nila, magkita-kita kami balang araw. Di mo masasabi laro ng buhay di ba?" the 285-pound Gubat, Sorsogon native told Spin.ph. "Ngayon, galit sila sa akin. Mamaya balang araw maging magkakasangga kami."
Belga claimed he grew up idolizing Alvin Patrimonio, but said he gets a different sense of fulfillment on the court whenever he plays physical like the Ginebra teams of old.
"Hindi ko din alam eh (kung bakit pisikal ako), ako na nga lang daw natitira sa PBA na ganito ang laro," said the former Gilas Pilipinas reserve.
"Saka syempre nung una ko nakakapanood PBA, mga una kong nakita sila (former Ginebra playing-coach Robert) Jaworski at (Rudy) Distrito, siguro nakita ko effective kaya di sinasadya, ganito ang tinakbo ng laro ko," he said.
Rain or Shine teammate Ryan Arana bared Belga is just as physical even during their team practices.
"Nanakit rin 'yan kahit sa practice, ang laking tao pag nabangga ka pa lang masasaktan ka na eh," said Arana. "Kaya ako, gusto kong kakampi si Beau. Kasi love him or hate. Depende which side ka."
Another teammate, Raymond Almazan, begged to differ.
"Ayaw ko kasama (sa team) si Beau," Almazan joked. "Kasi lagi kami nagkakasakitan sa practice. Mas madalas ang practice kesa actual game, di ba?"
Turning serious, Almazan was all praises for Belga.
"Mabait na tao 'yun. Galing makisama. Sa court lang talaga ganun 'yun. Syempre, Pinoy basketball. Mind games. Pero mabait yun. Promise," added the reed-thin former Letran Knights center.
