BEAU Belga is fed up of always finishing second best as he tries help Rain or Shine get over the hump this time in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.
The Elasto Painters eliminated the San Miguel Beermen after waltzing to a 124-99 win in Game Four of their semifinal series to reach familiar territory where they’ had their heart broken a few times already.
After winning their first championship right in their first try in the finals of the 2012 Governors’ Cup, the E-Painters have fallen short in their next four trips to the championship round where they settled for runner-up honors, the most recent of which came in the last Commissioner’s Cup where they lost to Talk ‘n Text in seven games.
“Pagod na kami sa runner-up,” Belga said. “Sinasabi ko nga na sana mabunot na yung pakong nakatusok sa mga paa namin and kami naman siguro. Ilang taon na mula 2012, 2016 na ngayon. Maiba naman.”
Belga, who contributed five boards, four points, two assists, one block, and one steal in 18 minutes in the close-out game, is hoping the E-Painters make the most of their opportunity this time, given how competitive the league has been.
“It's hard to be in the finals – you have twelve teams in the league, everybody is competitive so it's a very good chance and it's up to us to finish the job,” the ROS enforcer said. “Dito sa series na 'to kung sino mas gustong manalo, yun na yun, tapos na.”
“Pero hindi madali, kailangan naming pagtrabahuhan,” he added.
For now, they can celebrate after conquering a perennial playoffs tormentor in the Beermen in their third try in the semifinals.
“Kapag nagfafail ka naman, kailangan mo lang itry and you can't tell na give up na dahil natalo kayo twice so ngayon, hangga't nandyan yung opportunity may pag-asa, why not,” Belga said. “It’s a good opportunity for us to get better and yun nga, naging successful naman.”
“Masaya, but still ‘di pa tapos yung trabaho namin and the next one is to win the championship naman,” he added. “E-enjoyin lang for now, siguro hanggang bukas tapos back to work on Tuesday and a hard series against Alaska or Meralco.”
