BEAU Belga won’t mind if June Mar Fajardo continues to put up his usual numbers, so long as Rain or Shine silences the rest of San Miguel Beer’s stars starting in Game Two of their PBA Philippine Cup semifinal series on Thursday night.
The Elasto Painters big man was among those unenviably tasked to guard the SMB superstar, who still scattered 36 points, 18 boards, and five blocks in 41 minutes in the opener of the best-of-seven series.
“Si June Mar, given na 'yun. As long as mahirapan siya at mapagod, okay lang,” the 'Extra Rice' enforcer said. “At kita mo naman na pagod na pagod na eh.”
“Kung makakagawa siya ng thirty-eight points sa Game Two, wala akong pakialam, walang problema sa amin as long as ma-contain namin 'yung iba,” he added.
The E-Painters were successful for the most part despite Fajardo dominating as they led for three quarters, only to let Arwind Santos, Ronald Tubid, and Chris Ross heat up in the payoff period to surrender a 109-105 decision.
But Belga, who shone on offense with 19 points on top of five boards and one steal in just 21 minutes, hopes the Painters figure out how to protect a huge lead against the Beermen.
“Yung eagerness lang siguro namin na wag mag-relax kahit malaki lamang namin, yun din siguro yung isang magiging (susi),” the Painters bruiser said.
“Alam namin na kaya namin kasi lumalamang kami ng bente. Maging aware na we just need to prove na kaya namin ang San Miguel,” he added.
