BASES and Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) president Vince Dizon is confident that the PBA will secure a go-signal from the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on the resumption of the 2020 Philippine Cup through a bubble in Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga.
Dizon said BCDA will support the PBA in its bid to be granted permission by the IATF to resume its season in Clark, Pampanga as the league’s resumption will give the Filipino people a source of entertainment during the pandemic.
“Una po, ang PBA itself has been in close coordination with the IATF for several months na. Sumulat na po sila initially tungkol sa scrimmages at ngayon, ang PBA po ay magpapadala na ng formal na request para i-approve ng IATF ang PBA bubble,” Dizon said during an interview with Cignal TV’s Sports Page.
Dizon, who also serves as the deputy chief implementor of the government’s response to COVID-19, expressed confidence that the PBA will get the IATF nod because of health protocols that are already in place inside the former American military base that was converted over the past years into an economic zone.
Ever since the PBA announced last week that they intend to resume the season on October 9 in the Clark bubble, Dizon said the PBA has been regularly coordinating with the BCDA in preparation for the return of the games.
“Gusto natin gawing very safe para sa mga players, coaches, and staff, and to make sure that everything is in place para mag-enjoy ang mga fans kahit hindi sila physically na makakapanood,” said Dizon.
Dizon said BCDA became very interested in hosting the PBA bubble following a suggestion made by NLEX coach Yeng Guiao that the league should consider Clark as a venue for the resumption of the 2020 season in a controlled environment.
Dizon added the PBA holding a bubble is a positive step towards the return to normalcy amid the trying times.
Naisip po namin na what better symbol of trying to get back to normal or going into the new normal ika nga than restarting the most important pastime in the Philippines which is basketball.
