THE Bay Area Dragons made a bold move heading to the PBA Commissioner's Cup playoffs.
Bay Area Dragons make import switch
The guest team from Hong Kong activated 6-foot-10 import Andrew Nicholson for the explosive Myles Powell in time for their quarterfinals match against Rain or Shine on Friday.
Powell was relegated to the team's injured/reserved list after reportedly suffering a sprain in practice. The Dragons have submitted a medical report to the league certifying his health condition.
The Dragons have so far been unbeaten in the eight games Powell has played, including their last four in the eliminations that helped them clinched the no. 1 seed going to the playoffs.
They enjoy a twice-to-beat edge against the eighth seeded Elasto Painters.
Incidentally, Powell exploded for 50 points in the Dragons’ 120-87 rout of the Elasto Painters in their lone meeting in the eliminations, highlighting the performance with a sizzling 11-of-17 shooting from three-point range.
The former Philadelphia 76er averaged 37 points per game at the end of the eliminations.
Nicholson previously played four games with Bay Area and split his record at 2-2, the two losses coming at the expense of Barangay Ginebra and Meralco.
Under the set-up the Dragons have with the PBA, Powell can still be replaced by Nicholson in the playoffs in the event the import chosen by Bay Area as its permanent reinforcement gets injured in the playoffs.
But once the team reactivates Powell again, Nicholson is no longer eligible to return and play as import.
