BACK with a vengeance, the Bay Area Dragons have confirmed their much-anticipated return for the 2023 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Bay Area Dragons all set for PBA comeback
The conference’s reigning runners-up made the official announcement on Wednesday.
On top of its second salvo in the Philippines, the Dragons will concurrently compete in the second season of the East Asia Super League (EASL), now as a Hong Kong-based team.
“East Asia Super League Season 2 contenders Bay Area Dragons will make Hong Kong their home in 2023-24, bringing an unprecedented series of elite club basketball games to the city,” the Dragons said.
“The team will also once again compete for honors in the Philippines, entering the Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup for [the] second time in 2023-24.”
The Dragons will also don a fresh look after unveiling its rebranded team logo and colors.
PBA commissioner Willie Marcial expressed the league’s excitement to welcome back one of its most explosive foreign guest teams in recent memory.
“The PBA is very excited about adding in a Hong Kong element to our upcoming Commissioner’s Cup, and we look forward to the Bay Area Dragons team re-joining the PBA,” Marcial said.
Brian Goorjian will call the shots once more for the Dragons, but the team’s final roster for the forthcoming Commissioner’s Cup is still in the works.
However, Bay Area revealed some key returnees from its last PBA roster which includes Glen Yang, Zhu Songwei, Liu Chuanxing, and Duncan Reid.
“This is a revenge group for us. Me and the guys have been talking about it. We’re really excited to be competing against these teams. We know them, and we have some scores to settle. So, I’ll just say that. We’re coming for blood this year,” Reid said.
The PBA’s first foreign finalists in over four decades aim to gain a measure of revenge, not only against title tormentor Barangay Ginebra but with the rest of the local field that’ll have their sights set on spoiling the Dragons’ brewing fightback.
