TALK 'N Text has been looking forward to the playoffs as early as the tailend of the PBA Philippine Cup eliminations.
The Tropang Texters beat powerhouse teams San Miguel and Purefoods in back-to-back fashion during a one-week stretch that underscored how ready they are for the tough grind ahead.
And that begins for them on Friday night when the No. 4-ranked team battles ninth-seeded Barako Bull in the curtain raiser of a weekend doubleheader at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
The franchise reminded everybody it remained a force to be reckoned with in the all-Filipino conference when it outplayed the reigning champion Hotshots, 100-96. The Tropang Texters followed it up with a huge 107-101 decision over the top-seeded Beermen in a match that saw veterans Danny Seigle and Jay Washington torch their former team.
Coach Jong Uichico downplayed both victories, but hinted the Tropang Texters are peaking at the right time.
“I hope we’re ready for the playoffs,” he said.
The two wins stretched Talk `N Text’s streak at four games to end up with an 8-3 record and a twice-to-beat edge over Barako Bull.
“Two consecutive hard games, it’s a good sign that hindi nag-relax 'yung players and we’re still able to keep that energy,” Uichico noted.
The Tropang Texters will match up against an Energy side that recently tweaked their lineup by trading away veteran big man Mick Pennisi for Isaac Holstein and Ronnie Matias.
The Energy closed their elimination round campaign with a 4-7 record after losing to Purefoods, 99-83.
