WITH Meralco's conference hanging by a thread, Baser Amer showed why the big leap in his game is one of the best things to happen to the Bolts this season.
The sophomore guard out of San Beda came up with a career-best 32 points to lead the Bolts to a thrilling 103-100 victory over the TNT Ka-Tropa that forged a do-or-die Game Three in their PBA Comissioner’s Cup quarterfinal series.
Amer was consistent from the get-go, running circles around the TNT defense and making some big threes in regulation to keep the KaTropa at bay and give his team a chance to get its act together in overtime.
The heady guard simply refused to lose.
“Ayaw ko rin magbakasyon. Kung natalo kami today, maghihintay na naman kami next conference. Nakakasawa na,” said Amer who made 11 of his 21 shots on top of six rebounds and four assists.
“Gusto ko talaga, yung main target namin is makapunta ng semis then bahala na kung anong mangyayari,” he added.
As if Amer needed any more motivation other than survival, the former NCAA star was also fired up facing his longtime idol Jayson Castro in a must-win game.
With the way he performed, he definitely got the attention of the 'Blur.' Amer not only scored points on him, he also had a hand in limiting Castro to 12 points on 2-of-13 shooting and four assists before fouling out late in overtime.
“Isa siya sa mga idol ko sa PBA. Masarap makipaglaro sa mga ganun kagaling kasi makikita mo siya na go-hard siya, ayaw niyang magpatalo. Ikaw na iniidolo mo siya, di karin nagpapatalo,” said the proud son of Davao City.
He is determined to stand his ground against Castro come do-or-die Friday.
“Kung gusto niya ng pisikal, kailangan mo din magpisikal kasi at the end of the day, dun ka gagaling. Hindi lang gagaling, magiging matalino ka sa loob. Yun talaga yung importante, lalo na yung decision making.”
