MONTALBAN – A hamstring injury kept rookie Sedrick Barefield out of Blackwater’s PBA Philippine Cup game against NLEX on Friday at the Ynares Center II here.
The No. 2 overall pick in the last draft showed up in uniform for the Bossing, but wasn’t fielded by coach Jeffrey Cariaso.
COLUMN: For how long can Barefield bear all the losses at Blackwater?
Barefield averaged 18.2 points in the Bossing’s four games so far in the conference.
RK Ilagan replaced Barefield as part of Blackwater’s starting unit.
The Fil-Am guard also missed a significant part of the mid-season Commissioner’s Cup due to planta fasciitis.
Despite Barefield’s absence, the Bossing got off to sizzling start and led by as many as 17-9 in the first quarter.
But Blackwater was held to just 11 points in the second quarter as the Road Warriors managed to take a 36-28 lead at the break.
The Bossing eventually lost the game, 80-72, for a 1-3 record.
