CHICAGO - While watching the ongoing PBA 50th Season Governors’ Cup playoffs from the sidelines, Blackwater made a big move on Sunday.
Per multiple sources, the Bossing and franchise star Sedrick Barefield have agreed in principle on a contract extension.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed but I was told that Barefield ditched his agent and directly negotiated with team owner Dioceldo Sy.

Picked No. 2 overall by Blackwater in the Season 49 Rookie Draft, the 6-foot-2 guard has a well-documented history of wanting to play elsewhere.
This past June, his prior representation asked for a trade but the market was tepid for a well-credentialed G League and US NCAA veteran who didn’t exactly dominate in the PBA.
His previous agent’s asking price of close to P1 million a month including perks and bonuses didn’t help.
HAPPY CAMPER.
A flat performance at the Asian Games in Japan didn’t inspire interest from the league’s rich team’s either.
At Blackwater, though, Barefield is said to be enthused playing for head coach Pat Aquino, who took over the helm last April.
Although the Bossing missed this conference’s playoffs with a 3-7 won-lost card, Barefield averaged 21.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.

Blackwater has six other players with expiring contracts — David Murrell, Jack Cruz- Dumont, Abu Tratter, Jed Mendoza, Nick Demusis and Mike DiGregorio.
But the most important domino had fallen.
