BARANGAY Ginebra and TNT open the 44th season of the PBA on Sunday night at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.
The Gin Kings and the KaTropa clash in their Philippine Cup match-up at 6:30 p.m. after the Leo Awards and the formal opening ceremony of the new season at 4 p.m.
Ginebra made little changes to its line-up, with the Kings adding only rookie Teytey Teodoro following Jett Manuel's retirement after just one season with the team.
“We wanted to stay intact,” said Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone. “That was paramount for us. We feel there is something about continuity and understanding each other and understanding the system and continuing with the chemistry that we have developed.”
“Sometimes when you make radical changes, you have to start all over again from ground zero and that could be difficult especially when you have a complex system on offense and defense that we feel that we have,” said Cone.
The KaTropa, meanwhile, underwent a major change during the offseason, trading Terrence Romeo to San Miguel for David Semerad, Brian Heruela and a few draft picks.
Leading the way for the KaTropa is veteran Jayson Castro, with Troy Rosario out at least a month with a broken nose.
