BARANGAY Ginebra and Meralco will battle again in the PBA quarterfinals, but this time, in the 49th Season Commissioner’s Cup.
The clash was formally arranged after the Gin Kings defeated the Bolts, 91-87, on Wednesday. It will be a best-of-three affair as both have clinched the No. 4 and No. 5 spots respectively.
The match would've happened regardless the result of Meralco’s final elimination-round match against Magnolia on Friday.
It will be the second time that the two teams will be going up against each other in the quarterfinals.
Ginebra and Meralco figured in the best-of-five quarterfinals of the Governors’ Cup with the Kings sweeping the Bolts in the series.
TNT and Rain or Shine will also battle in the final day of the eliminations.
In the event that TNT and Magnolia win, Ginebra and Converge will end up in the share of third place with an 8-4 win-loss record, but the Gin Kings will secure the No. 4 seed since they lost to the FiberXers in Batangas City last December 21.
If TNT and Meralco win, Converge, Barangay Ginebra, and Meralco will tie for third with an 8-4 win-loss record, but Ginebra and Meralco will be in the bottom in that three-way tie, and grabbing the No. 4 and No. 5 spots due to an inferior quotient of 0.9838 and 0.9005 respectively.
Even with losses to TNT and Meralco, Ginebra will take the No. 4 spot with an 8-4 win-loss record due to an inferior quotient with TNT and Converge, with Meralco at No. 5 due to a superior quotient (1.0773) with Rain or Shine (1.0396) and Eastern (0.8770).
A four-way tie for second with Converge, TNT, Barangay Ginebra, and Meralco, which will occur with wins by Rain or Shine and Meralco, will lead to the Gin Kings (0.9710) and the Bolts (0.9272) being the teams with inferior quotient and the No. 4 and No. 5 slots.
