Barako Bull beats Kia Motors for breakthrough win behind rookie Jake Pascual's career game

    Nov 16, 2014

JAKE Pascual played the best game of his young professional career as he scored 22 points to lift Barako Bull to an 87-71 victory over KIA Motors for the Energy’s first win in the PBA Philippine Cup Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

The rookie big man out of San Beda actually posted a double-double after grabbing 12 rebounds in the team’s breakthrough win following an 0-5 start to the conference.

Pascual had 16 points in the first half before the rest of the Energy took over in the second half by capping off the third period with a huge 8-0 run to end the quarter with a 66-53 lead.

Barako never looked back from there to spoil KIA’s plan to give playing-coach Manny Pacquiao a fitting gift before his world welterweight title match against unbeaten American Chris Algieri next week.

The win was also the first coaching win in the league for Koy Banal, who took over the coaching chores from Siot Tanquincen days before the season came off the wraps.

Banal believed the Energy were due for a win after lopsided losses to Rain or Shine and Barangay Ginebra in their previous outings.

“I believe that good things will come to us especially after we were beaten badly by Rain or Shine and Ginebra. It was good that everybody responded,” said Banal.

William Wilson had 11 points for the Energy, who led by as many as 19 points in the game.

LA Revilla contributed 21 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in a losing effort for the Sorento, who fell to 1-6 overall.
