ANTIPOLO CITY — Barako Bull continued its fiery start to the PBA Governors Cup, beating Talk ‘N Text, 100-87, on Friday at the Ynares Center.
The Energy won their third straight game to open the conference behind import Liam McMorrow, who once again threw his weight around with a double-double of 26 points and 28 rebounds.
Barako Bull coach Koy Banal said the win was huge for the confidence of his wards even if the Texters weren’t at their best owing to injuries to starters Ranidel de Ocampo and Jayson Castro and rookie Kevin Alas.
“We talked about catching a big fish and that’s what exactly the guys did,” said Banal. “A win is still a win. We needed that confidence dito sa win na ‘to."
Barako Bull used a strong start, building on a 25-14 lead at the end of the first period and never looked back.
McMorrow also got plenty of support, with four three Ginebra players - Dylan Ababou (17), JC Intal (14) and Joseph Yeo (12) - scoring in double figures along with RR Garcia (13).
“I’m grateful for the players that they were able to sustain our strong start and I’m glad that Liam delivered the goods again,” said Banal.
Steffphon Pettigrew had 23 points for Talk 'N Text while Jay Washington added 14.
