RENALDO Balkman welcomed the break between the PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals and finals especially after sustaining an injury on his right knee in Game Four of the series against Alaska on Monday.
Balkman hurt his right knee halfway through the third quarter of San Miguel’s 104-99 win over Alaska to close out the series in Game Four. He played through the injury and finished with 23 points and 16 rebounds.
The rest between Game Four of the semifinals and Game One of the Finals, possibly on Friday, should bode well for Balkman after sustaining the injury.
Balkman, however, assured he is okay.
“Little banged up a bit,” Balkman admitted after Game Four. “I’m a fighter, I’m a warrior. I’ve got a couple of days to get myself together.”
“Game One should be on Friday. Whoever we play, it’s going to be a good one,” said Balkman.
The Beermen will get a lot of rest before they face either Barangay Ginebra and Rain or Shine in the best-of-seven championship series after clinching a finals berth on Monday.
Balkman is glad to achieve the goal of making it to the finals, helping the team play for the Commissioner’s Cup title after going 0-3 to start the conference.
“Like I told you, when I first started, one game at a time. Now we are here, we are in the finals, played a great game tonight. This is what basketball is made of. I came out here with one goal - it’s to make it."
“We made it to the finals and I’ve got to win it. We are here,” added Balkman.
