GOOD news for Alaska, a bad one for Talk `N Text.
Cyrus Baguio, the high-flying guard of the Aces, was spared of a suspension and will definitely suit up for the team for Friday’s Game Four of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals against the Tropang Texters.
Baguio himself confirmed to Spin.ph that no suspension is forthcoming following his meeting with commissioner Chito Salud Thursday noon at the PBA office in Libis.
“OK naman. Wala akong suspension,” said the former star guard of Santo Tomas.
In an official statement, Salud later said that indeed, there will be no suspension to be sanctioned on Baguio
A hefty fine of P30,000 however, was meted on the 6-foot-2 Alaska player following the flagrant foul 2 he committed against Jayson Castro of Talk `N Text in Game 3 of the best-of-seven series Wednesday night.
“Pero kinausap ako ng masinsinan ni Kume, na huwag nang ulitin kasi baka makadisgrasya.” said Baguio, who is obviously regretful of the the incident.
Baguio recounted how he was intensely interrogated by Salud like an FBI agent during the meeting by pulling out old video clips of him and Castro.
“Nagulat nga ako kasi nilabas ni Kume `yung video ko na hard foul din kay Jason nung Red Bull pa ako”, added Baguio, who bared that it was a no-no in his former team allowing 'and one' plays.
“Tinanong nga rin ako ni Kume kung nag-abot ba kami (Jayson) nung college o sa PBL, pero sabi ko dito na lang talaga sa PBA,” he said.
The meeting lasted for about 15-20 minutes, with majority of the time spent on Baguio explaining his side on all angles of videos presented by the PBA commissioner.
“Nalungkot din ako na makita `yung foul, pero talagang hindi ko sinadya yun. Ayokong manakit kasi ako ayoko rin na mangyari sa akin yun.” said the nephew of the later PBA player RicRic Marata.
In parting, Salud said he will review the tape once again, but gave Baguio one simple advice.
“Concentrate ka na sa practice ninyo,” said the amiable commissioner to the Alaska player.
