ANTIPOLO – San Miguel Beer is facing the possibility of missing AZ Reid for a few games in the PBA Governors’ Cup due to an Achilles injury.
Reid revealed he has been playing through the injury on his right foot in SMB’s 98-92 loss to GlobalPort on Friday night at the Ynares Center.
“Of course, there’s a big prospect (of me missing games),” Reid admitted after the game. “I’m not going to tear my body up. Yes, I want to play, but I got to be smart and my foot is a major part and it’s my priority.”
Reid said he suffered the injury in the second quarter of their double-overtime win against Barangay Ginebra last Sunday.
“It didn’t get better and it only got worse. I can’t really move the way I want to. I can’t get the lift on my jump shots,” said Reid, who still managed to score 41 points against the Batang Pier. “I got a lot of points on the post, but I’m not right.”
“I’m not going to play if I continue to play like this,” the two-time Best Import added. “I won’t continue to tear it up. It’s tough because I want to play, but it’s not looking good.”

Reid admitted that his heavy minutes this early in the conference have also taken its toll.
“I lead the league in minutes and if I continue to go on this rate, I’m just going to tear my body. I’m not a machine,” the 30-year-old cager said. “People here think I’m a machine. Yes, I can play basketball, but I’m not a machine and that’s what people here have to realize.”
SMB coach Leo Austria declined to grant an interview after emerging from the dugout following a long meeting with his staff.
