SAN Miguel coach Leo Austria paid tribute to his players after the Beermen won the PBA Philippine Cup finals for an unprecedented fifth straight time.

Austria won his seventh career championship as a coach when the Beermen battled back from a 17-point, first-half deficit to beat Magnolia, in a Game Seven thriller to cap the 2019 all-Filipino finals.

The multi-titled coach reserved his biggest thanks to his players who, he said, never fail to make him look good.

“Sa mga players, maraming, maraming salamat sa inyo. Nag-mukha akong magaling na coach dahil sa inyo,” Austria said.

The Beermen came storming back from a 43-26 deficit then turned to the steady hands of Alex Cabagnot, who hit the marginal basket in the endgame.

Austria also hailed the performance of Magnolia, which gave its sister team all it could handle.

“Both teams are deserving to win a championship. We are just so lucky tonight,” Austria said.
