SAN Miguel coach Leo Austria insisted Marcio Lassiter missed Game Three of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals due to back spasms.
Austria said the team decided to sit out Lassiter as he was feeling pain in his back before Sunday’s game which San Miguel lost, 92-90, giving Phoenix Pulse its first win the best-of-seven series.
“We had a good practice yesterday. We know na we are in good shape. Pagdating niya dito kanina, something is wrong with his back,” said Austria.
Austria said the coaching staff deemed it best to rest Lassiter for the coming games so his back will be fully healed.
“We don’t want to aggravate the situation na hindi playable. Talagang back spasm siya. Maybe next game, he will be okay, hopefully,” Austria said.
Lassiter declined to speak to reporters after Game Three.
Austria said Lassiter’s absence made a big difference for the Beermen as they lost a player who can make an impact on both ends of the floor.
“If we have Marcio, he can play defense and he can knock down his shots. It could happen to any team (injuries). The team still had a chance to win. I think we have to be ready next game,” said Austria.
