ASI Taulava is confident new coach Yeng Guiao is the missing piece NLEX needs to finally win its first PBA championship since acquiring the franchise from Air21 in 2014.

Taulava, 43, was already in high spirits after making history on Friday, becoming the oldest player named to the PBA Mythical Second Team during the Leo Awards. But the mere thought of playing for Guiao has Taulava looking forward to nabbing another milestone for his team.

"Of course," said Taulava when asked if the Road Warriors can finally win a title with the arrival of the multi-titled mentor in place of Boyet Fernandez.

"That's our ultimate goal. His first meeting with us, it wasn't sugarcoated. He's there with a purpose. He's there to win. He's a winner. He's a coach that brings out the best in everybody and we want that," he added.

With two more years left with the Road Warriors, Taulava, who fondly addresses the tough drillmaster Guiao as 'General' in his tweets, bared his hopes to end his decorated career with a championship.

"I'm excited to play for him, he knows how to push the buttons and get the players to play," he said.

"Every team he's handled, he's been able to win a championship for them and I got two years left with NLEX, so I'm looking forward to it. Whatever he tells me to do, I’m gonna go out there and do it," Taulava, who played for Guiao in the Philippine team in the past, added.

But Taulava also pointed out that achieving that dream won’t happen overnight, especially if the players don’t do their part even with Guiao at the helm.

"We have to be willing to make the sacrifice if we wanna win," he said.

"Nevertheless, it's gonna be a rough season with a lot of adjustments. I think he's gonna bring a lot of different things to the team. It's just up to us players now, we're gonna be the ones who will adjust to meet him halfway," added Taulava.
