ASI Taulava is hoping NLEX would continue a trend in the Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup after the Road Warriors lost to GlobalPort, 96-90, on Wednesday.
The Road Warriors suffered a second straight setback to fall to an even 4-4 win-loss slate, sustaining a trend that saw them put up different two-game streaks - a winning and losing one since the start of the conference.
“Hopefully the trend sticks,” said Taulava, who led the team with 29 points and 12 boards.
If the flow holds through, NLEX is bound to win against San Miguel Beer and Ginebra in its next two games.
“We need that game (vs SMB), especially with placing heading into the quarterfinals,” Taulava said.
It may be wishful thinking on the part of the veteran center as the Road Warriors will be up against two top-caliber teams.
Taulava hopes NLEX would improve in its performances early in games to avoid falling into holes the way it did against the Batang Pier.
“We sucked in the first half (against Golbalport),” Taulava admitted. “Everybody was looking to score and when we got down big, that’s when everybody started missing and giving the ball back to the post.”
