ASI Taulava showed it's never too late to develop a three-point shot.
At 45 and in the 21st - and likely final - season of his PBA career, Taulava showed the extended range and consistency that NLEX coach Yeng Guiao demands from his big men.
The evergreen slotman hit four three-pointers right in the first quarter and finished with a total of five, surprising fans and fellow players at the Calasiao Sports Complex in Pangasinan.
"About 10 years too late," Guiao joked when asked about Taulava's newfound arsenal.
Turning serious, the multi-titled coach added: "If only Asi learned the three-point shot a few years earlier, he could perhaps give coach Sonny Jaworski stiff competition in the oldest active player category."
Jaworski played his final PBA game at the age of 50.
The shooting display highlighted an 18-point, nine-rebound performance for the popular slotman, easily his best in two seasons under Guiao.
Before Saturday's torrid shooting, Taulava already had eight treys in the Commissioner's Cup.
And although it didn't translate into a win, the performance should mean more minutes for Taulava in the Governors Cup swan song.
