BASER Amer is locked in on continuing to improve his game as trade rumors swirled around him in this offseason.
"Focus lang ako para mas mag-improve pa yung laro ko," he said.
The 26-year-old point guard has had a landmark third season with Meralco, averaging 12.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.4 assists — all career-bests — as he further established himself as one of the premier playmakers in the PBA.
With the way Amer has been playing, it's no surprise that his name has cropped up in a rumored three-team deal that will supposedly see him moving to TNT KaTropa.
Under the terms of that trade, second overall pick Bobby Ray Parks will be sent by Blackwater to Meralco while TNT's Jericho Cruz and newly acquired Brian Heruela wil both end up with the Elite.
Amer admitted catching wind of the rumors, though he said the Meralco management has yet to speak to him about the matter.
"Oo, narinig ko nga yung trade daw, pero wala pa namang sinasabi sa akin. Sa ngayon, alam ko Meralco pa rin naman ako," he said.
If that trade pushes through, the Davao City native will have the privilege of playing under the tutelage of Jayson Castro in the KaTropa camp, a caveat which Amer can't help but be excited about.
"Sino ba naman ang hindi gusto maging kakampi si Kuya Jayson? Sa Gilas pa lang, sobrang dami ko na natutunan sa kanya. Lalo pa siguro kung maging kakampi mo siya," he said.
But for now, it's all up in the air for Amer as his sights remain set on helping the Bolts compete this upcoming 2019 PBA season where he's poised to partner with speedy rookie Trevis Jackson.
"Dito pa rin naman tayo sa Meralco. Gagawin ko pa rin yung lahat ng kaya ko para mas makapag- compete yung team namin sa darating na all-Filipino," he said.
