Arwind Santos says he has no intention of hurting Marqus Blakely

    May 24, 2015

ARWIND Santos felt he didn’t deserve to get a technical foul that led to his ejection and dampened San Miguel Beer’s 100-89 win over Star in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Sunday night.

The lanky forward incurred a second technical infraction for taunting Hotshots import Marqus Blakely with over nine minutes left in the fourth quarter.

While he had no intention to hurt Blakely, Santos admitted teasing the former Best Import by trying to wave his elbows at him repeatedly after the latter picked a personal foul following a rebound play.

    They Said It!

Arwind is quite too skilled to engage in cheap shots like these. Lots of disconnect here. Thanking God for the win and justifying his swinging of the elbows. Really now. And what's that 'respect' for Tim Cone? My value of you as a player and person is down the gutter. But of course you would think I'm just one voice, you wouldn't even be bothered by this comment. Oh but wait, you will of course at the end say that you respect every fan's opinion."     stark

“Ang basketball ay para maglaro ng seryoso, pero hindi masama na lagyan mo ng konting kakulitan o pang-asar,” the nine-year league veteran said. “Pang-asar yung ginawa ko.”

“Pero hindi ko in-expect na bibigyan ng technical ‘yun, kasi wala sa intention ko na tamaan talaga. Alam ko eh, kontrolado ko yung sarili ko kung tatamaan kita o hindi,” Santos stressed.

The 33-year-old Pampanga native insisted he should’ve just been called for a warning.

“So hindi ako masaya dun sa tawag na ‘yun. dapat warning muna,” he said. “Parang hindi na bago sa mga liga na meron pang-aasar ng konti. Buti sana kung tinamaan.”

“Naisip ko nga, sana tinamaan ko na lang para at least talagang totoo pa,” he added in jest.

“Pero at least, God is good. Nanalo kami,” said Santos, who, before getting thrown out, scored five straight points that gave the Beermen 78-68 lead. He finished with 12 points, four rebounds, and two blocks in 24 minutes.

Santos believes the technical foul, which took place when the Beermen were ahead, 78-70, was also triggered by Hotshots coach Tim Cone’s butting in during the commotion.

“Dahil sa follow-up ni coach Tim Cone, kaya siguro ako nabigyan ng technical,” he said.

“Sabi niya, ‘that’s bullshit’ daw,” Santos said, recalling Cone’s words.

“Ayaw ko na lang sagutin eh, kaya gumanun na lang ako eh,” he added, gesturing a quiet sign with a finger to his lips. “Kasi kahit papaano, nandun pa rin yung respeto ko kay coach Tim.”
