ARWIND Santos showed off three of his five championship rings during San Miguel Beer’s fans’ day on Wednesday at Robinsons Magnolia.
Laced together in a gold necklace, the three rings are probably the most special for the SMB star forward – the 2011 Governors’ Cup signifying his first pro title, the 2015 Philippine Cup, his first all-Filipino crown, and the 2016 Philippine Cup – representing their “Beeracle” run last year when they authored the greatest comeback in league history.
“Proud to be … na nakuha ko ‘tong mga ganitong award na nagre-remind sa akin,” Santos explained on why he wore the rings. “Pag nakikita ko ‘tong mga ‘to, naaalala ako kung san ako galing, kaya ko ‘to sinusuot.”
The rings, Santos said, are also a reminder for him to keep his feet on the ground.
“Pero yung kumpiyansa at blessings na binibigay ng Diyos, hindi ko dapat makalimutan at hindi ko dapat ilagay sa ikakayabang ko,” the former league MVP was quick to add. “Lagi ko lang ipagpasalamat sa kanya. Lagi ako manatili nakasayad ang paa sa lupa, and wag din maging maramot.”
Santos said the ring for the Beermen's most recent conquest in the PBA Philippine Cup Finals against Ginebra has yet to be awarded by management.
