LOSSES by Barako Bull, Barangay Ginebra and GlobalPort over the weekend augurs well for San Miguel's last-ditch bid to make the PBA Commissioner's Cup playoffs, but Arwind Santos said the Beermen still need to take care of business.

“Tingin ko, medyo nakaka-adjust na kami, lalo na sila June Mar (Fajardo), Alex (Cabagnot) so may kalalagyan kami. Though sa ngayon, ang goal namin is makapasok sa quarterfinals,” Santos told Spin.ph on Monday.

The 6-foot-4 Santos has led from the front in the team’s resurgence, averaging 20 points and seven rebounds in back-to-back victories that brought the Beermen back to life in the playoff race.

Before the All-Star break, the former league MVP fired 22 points and hauled down 13 rebounds to lead San Miguel to a 102-91 win over skidding Barako Bull.

A week later, the 'Spiderman' banged in 18 points as he joined hands with Fajardo and import Arizona Reid in leading the Beermen to a 129-114 win over Rain or Shine that improved the team's record to 3-6.

The two big games were enough to give Santos the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the week award for the period covering March 3 to 15 as he beat out the NLEX pair of KG Canaleta and Asi Taulava for the honor.

More important, the two wins brought the Beermen within a game of Ginebra, Barako, GlobalPort and KIA which are currently tied for the sixth to ninth places on 4-5 records going to the final stretch of the eliminations.

Still, Santos knows the Beermen need to sweep their last two games to have a shot at catching the last bus to the playoffs.

“Para sa amin kasi, itong mga huling laro namin i-treat na namin na parang laro nung sa (Philippine Cup) Finals na do-or-die. Sobrang importante lahat,” he said.

“Ngayon may nakikita kaming konting liwanag although alam natin, kapag natalo kami, biglang didilim uli iyan,” added the 33-year-old Santos.

The road to the playoffs, howeer, doesn't get any easier for Santos and the Beemen, who face Talk ‘N Text on Wednesday before closing their elimination-round schedule against GlobalPort next week.

“Ang sabi lang naman ni coach, stay together kahit na ano mangyari. Ang importante, maglaro lang kami ng mabuti and hopefully, manalo,” Santos said.
